What is this group about?
The Memory Perspectives Reading Group is intended for psychology and neuroscience graduate and 'advanced undergraduate' students interested in human memory. This group was made in hopes that it will give it's members an opportunity to learn more about other areas of memory research, while simultaneously giving presenters an opportunity to gain a deeper knowledge of their own field of expertise, as well as improve their presentation skills. This group can also be used as an opportunity to practice guest lectures (relating to memory).
Structure of the Group
The reading group meets bi-weekly for one hour. Meetings will consist of either a practice research talk (e.g., before a conference/seminar oral presentation), lead the discussion of a paper/chapter, or have more of an open discussion on a selected topic.
For example, at these meetings, one student could present a short talk (20-40 minutes) or leads a group discusion on a topic that of their interest that is related to memory research. The remaining portion of the meeting will be filled with questions and further discussion. While we do propose some structure to the meetings in general, the structure is quite flexible and open to new ideas.
In keeping with the informal atmosphere of the reading group, members are not required to attend meetings, and sporadic attendance is acceptable.
